Postponed wedding: ideas to make your initial date special

You had to postpone your wedding day due to COVID-19? I guess it wasn’t an easy decision to make, so my heart is with you! I dare not imagine the roller coaster of mixed emotions that you are going through right now. Whether you have mourned this first wedding date or not, when the original date is around the corner… I can imagine that your heart swings back and forth between spending this particular weekend curled up into a ball in your bed, waiting for it to be over or celebrating it to make it special. Yes, when you’re sad, celebrating is the hardest thing to do, but let me try to give you some ideas of things to do to make this day/weekend fun, festive and most of all, filled with love, as it should have been! One last piece of advice: plan ahead to make this moment even more special!

Start the day off right

How you start the day that should have been your wedding day really matters. It’s a chance to set the tone for the rest of the day, so why not start it off with breakfast in bed – just the two of you? You can either prepare it yourself or… Have it delivered! Freshly squeezed juice, coffee, good bread and, why not a bouquet of fresh flowers to top it all? Nothing better than putting yourself in a relaxing, cozy mood. It will put a little smile on the corner of your lips!

Spa day at home

To continue on the relaxation vibe, there’s nothing like preparing a SPA session at home! This will allow you to let go of any lingering stress and to relax. Create a cocooning and soothing atmosphere by lighting candles, diffusing a calming scent with essential oils for instance and putting THE playlist that goes well with the mood. Meditate, take turns at giving massages, take a bath with lots of foam… This is an intimate moment to take care of yourself, take care of one another.

Have your own private wedding ceremony

Take the time to write a love letter to your partner to let them know how you feel about them. Put on your best outfit, buy one for the occasion or pair your wedding veil with your pajamas, your suit jacket with swim shorts or make a wedding dress from your sheets, it works too – as long as it looks like you! Prepare a small ceremony just for the two of you and read your letter to each other. Let your heart speak, take the time to feel each word and feel each emotion they carry.

Video call with your loved ones to celebrate with them

Getting married also means celebrating your love with the people you care most about. So maybe you will feel their absence that day. If so, invite your closest family and friends to join you for a virtual celebration! Prepare fancy cocktails or pop a bottle of champagne on Skype with your loved ones, and toast to your initial wedding date! This is also an opportunity to share with them what you are most looking forward to, and even play a playlist to start a small dance party!

Have a romantic dinner or picnic

Organize a candlelit dinner at home, a cozy picnic in your garden or in the outdoors, or build a fort in the middle of the living room with your sheets and share your meal there! Whether you want to recreate your wedding menu, to have a crazy fancy meal or some pizzas delivered or to prepare a good meal together, eat what pleases you! 0 limit, 0 guilt!

Rehearse your first dance in your living room

Nothing stops you from sharing your first dance right there right now, in the middle of your living room! Turn the music on, move the furniture to make room, add fairy lights, and dance, just the two of you. A special and fusional moment during which you forget everything around you. And… maybe you will end up turning your evening into a dance party! Yeaaah have fun!

Make this day an adventure and capture it

It’s your day, it’s an opportunity to get away from your everyday life and clear your head! So take this as an opportunity to create new memories together! Go on an adventure and share the activities you enjoy: mountain hiking, canoeing, climbing, walking on the beach, stargazing… The possibilities are quite endless. And, it would be a pleasure to tag along and and capture these special moments for you! A beautiful memory of this day, which will be just as special, in its own way.
